The victim’s wife, Syeda Ruquliya Fatima Rizvi, has reached out to Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, urging him to ensure that her husband receives proper medical treatment. In a heartfelt letter, she expressed her deep concern for Mazahir Ali’s safety and requested assistance for her and their three minor children to travel to the US and be with him during this challenging time.

Mazahir Ali, a master’s degree student at Indiana Wesleyan University, was attacked by four individuals near his Chicago residence. CCTV footage captured the horrifying moment when he was pursued and assaulted by his attackers, leaving him severely injured.

In a plea for help heard in the video, Mazahir Ali recounts the traumatic experience, “Four people attacked me when I was returning home. I slipped near my house and they kicked and punched me. Please help me bro, please help me.”

This incident comes amidst a series of unfortunate events involving Indian students in the United States. Four Indian-origin students have been found dead this year under different circumstances, raising concerns about the safety of the Indian diaspora in the country.

Indian Student Bleeds Profusely

In response to the alarming rise in such incidents, Mazahir Ali’s family has called for swift action to address the security concerns faced by Indian students studying abroad. The attack on Mazahir Ali, captured in a video that has circulated widely on social media, has intensified the debate about the need for improved security measures and support systems for international students in the US.

In the video, Mazahir Ali describes the attack, stating, “While I was about to reach home, four men attacked me. They kicked me, punched me, and also snatched my phone. Please help me.” The distressing visuals have sparked outrage and renewed discussions about the safety of Indian students studying overseas.

Syeda Ruquliya Fatima Rizvi, currently in India, provided additional details about the incident. She said, “My husband Mazahir Ali went to Chicago for his master’s. A deadly attack happened on him on February 4 at around 1 am…Around 6 am in the morning, I received the attack’s WhatsApp video…He is seriously injured…The government there did not provide any proper treatment to him.” She pleaded with the Indian government to ensure that Mazahir Ali receives the necessary medical and legal assistance in the US.

The Indian Consulate in Chicago has assured all possible assistance to Mazahir Ali and his family. They are in touch with both the victim and his wife in India and have contacted local authorities who are actively investigating the case.
