The political landscape in Haryana has seen a significant boost for the BJP, with Savitri Jindal, India’s richest woman, and two independent MLAs lending their support to the party. This development comes as the BJP seeks to solidify its thin margin in the 90-member Haryana assembly, where it secured 48 seats, just two above the majority mark of 46.
Savitri Jindal, who won as an Independent candidate from Hisar, extended her backing to the BJP after a meeting with Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb. Along with her, two other independents, Devender Kadyan and Rajesh Joon, have also joined hands with the BJP, raising the party’s tally to 51 seats in the assembly.
BJP’s Strengthened Position in Haryana
The additional support from the independents is a welcome relief for the BJP, especially as the Congress poses no real threat, despite its 37-seat win. The Congress has, however, voiced allegations of irregularities during the counting process, refusing to accept the results. Despite this, the BJP remains in a relatively strong position.
The Role of Savitri Jindal
Savitri Jindal, the widow of industrialist OP Jindal, holds significant political and social influence in Hisar, a constituency previously represented by her late husband. Though she ran as an independent, her political ties to the BJP strengthened after her son, Naveen Jindal, who serves as BJP’s Kurukshetra MP, switched sides earlier this year. Her independent run came after the BJP fielded Kamal Gupta in Hisar, but she has now chosen to support the party in the assembly.
Her decision marks a return to her political roots after previously serving in Bhupinder Hooda’s Congress government in 2013. She parted ways with the Congress in March 2024, when her son switched allegiance to the BJP.
Independent MLAs Join BJP
In addition to Jindal’s support, independent MLAs Devender Kadyan and Rajesh Joon officially joined the BJP today, further cementing the party’s position in Haryana. Their decision to back the BJP was formalized at a meeting held at Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s residence, where state BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli was also present.

Conclusion
With the support of Savitri Jindal and other independent MLAs, the BJP has successfully bolstered its numbers in Haryana, ensuring a more stable majority in the assembly. As political maneuvering continues, the BJP’s strategic moves demonstrate its focus on securing governance in Haryana while the Congress grapples with internal challenges.
